Recommended reading for the Certificate Foundation course
Hypnosis for Change. Josephine Hadley & Carol Staudaucher
ISBN 1-57224-057-1
An excellent book to start with. Hypnosis for Change is an easy read explaining what Hypnosis is and the process of it. The scripts it contains are a great way to help you practice Hypnosis, what to expect and how to follow up after using them. Reasonably priced too.
I'm afraid of hypnosis but I don't know why. Deborah Marshall-Warren
ISBN 1-902987-07-1
This is a good book to read to help you, the therapist understand why people are afraid of hypnosis. If you can dispel the myths surrounding Hypnotherapy and help more people in the process, it will help the profession to become even more widely accepted as a mainstream therapy. A win win for all!
Hypnotherapy for Dummies. Mike Bryant & Peter Mabbutt
ISBN 0-470-01930-1
Worth reading this responsible guide book. It explains how hypnotherapy works and how to treat a wide range of problems. There is a cheat sheet in the front that can be torn out for you to keep to refer to on the terminology used in Hypnotic language; what to expect in a Hypnotherapy session and simple steps to Self Hypnosis. Clearly laid out and covers the basics. A good foundation book to have.
Recommended reading for the Diploma course.
Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors. D. Corydon Hammond, PhD
0-393-70095-X
This is an excellent hard back book which is a real must if you are furthering your studies into Diploma level training and beyond. It has everything you could possibly wish for in a book of it's type. This book is more expensive than the others on the list, but worth the investment in our opinion.
Clinical and Experimental HYPNOSIS (2 nd Edition). William S. Kroger, M.D
0-397-50377-6
Written by Dr. Kroger, M.D., this book is a heavier read coming from a more scientific approach. It covers everything in Hypnotherapy but also includes a modern review of techniques used successfully with hypnosis in medical, dental and psychological conditions. Highly recommended.
Hypnosis: Medicine of the Mind. Dr. Michael D. Preston
1-930580-11-8
This I personally believe has the best definition of hypnosis. It is easy to read and is a complete manual for the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Practitioner. This book includes scripts and the explanation of their use.
Many Lives, Many Masters. Dr Brian Weiss
0-7499-1378-9
For those of you particularly interested in Past Life Regression then this is excellent. I have received comments from students exclaiming " I couldn't put it down!"
The above recommendations are our personal ones. All the books we recommend on our reading list are superb and we highly recommend all of them, however, I have frequently been asked by many prospective students which is the best? or which ones would I personally recommend? So, I hope that these guidelines will help you.
Happy reading!
